SMS-Activate alternative: SMS-Activate has closed — what former users can do
SMS-Activate was one of the best-known SMS activation services. It is no longer operating. If you used it for one-time verification codes or through its API, this page explains what the official notice says, what you can still do, and how SMSPing compares, including where it does not.
Verified status (4 November 2026): the notice on sms-activate.org says: "We have completely ceased our operation since December 22." It adds that withdrawals were available until February 5 and that users were notified by email and in the bot.
What the official notice says
- Operations ceased on 22 December. Third-party coverage dates the closure to December 2025 (HeroSMS, PVAPins).
- Withdrawals were available until 5 February. The notice says each user was notified by email and in the bot.
- The notice says the team handed its technology to the HeroSMS service team. SMSPing is not affiliated with SMS-Activate or HeroSMS.
- It warns: "Our name goes away with us. If you find a service called SMS-Activate, then be sure they are scammers".
What former SMS-Activate users can do now
- Ignore sites using the SMS-Activate name. The official notice itself calls them scams. Do not send deposits or log in with old credentials.
- Re-check account security. If you reused your SMS-Activate password elsewhere, change it there.
- Move your apps off temporary numbers. Any account where an SMS-Activate number was the recovery phone should get a phone number or recovery method you control.
- Pick a replacement for one-time codes. Compare a few providers on stock for your exact app and country, payment options, what happens when no code arrives, and the API. The 5sim alternative checklist works for any provider.

Honest drawbacks: the $10 minimum top-up is higher than a quick $1 test; there are no long-term rentals; and SMSPing does not offer an SMS-Activate-compatible handler_api.php endpoint, so existing scripts need to be adapted. SMSPing does not publish success rates or delivery times, and nobody can guarantee that an app will accept a given number.
Moving to SMSPing, step by step
- List what you actually used. Write down the apps and countries you bought most often.
- Check prices and stock first. Open the price list (no account needed) and the country pages. If a pair you need shows no stock, wait or pick another country rather than topping up.
- Create an account on smsping.net or open @smspingnetbot.
- Top up a small amount. USDT (TRC20/ERC20/BEP20) is the main option; TRX/ETH/BNB are also supported; the minimum is $10. Balance cannot be withdrawn, so add only what you plan to spend.
- Buy one number and test. Choose the app, then the country, then an operator. The price is re-checked at purchase.
- If no code arrives, cancel the order or let it time out; the charge goes back to your SMSPing balance, once per order. See troubleshooting missing codes.
- Developers: create an API key and port your code to SMSPing's REST API. It is not a drop-in replacement for

SMSPing does not emulate the SMS-Activate protocol. The concepts map, but the calls are different:
