Taiwan Phone Number for Verification Code: +886 Format and How to Receive SMS Online
People searching for a "taiwan virtual number" or a "taiwan number for verification" often get stuck on something simpler than finding a number: the sign-up form says "invalid phone number", or +886 gets typed as +86. This page first explains the Taiwan mobile number format, based on the numbering plan published by Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA), then when you actually need a Taiwan number, and how to receive an SMS verification code on a Taiwan number with SMSPing.
Taiwan's country code is +886, not +86
Taiwan's international dialing code is +886. +86 is the code for mainland China. They differ by one digit but are different regions, so when an app asks for a country, pick "Taiwan +886".
Taiwan mobile number format
According to MODA's telecommunications numbering plan, mobile numbers use the 090-098 prefixes and are 10 digits long including the leading 0:
- Domestic format: 10 digits starting with 09, for example 0912 345 678.
- International format: drop the leading 0, so +886 912 345 678, which is 9 digits after +886.
How to enter a Taiwan number when the form says it is invalid
Most "invalid number" errors come from one of these:
- The country is already set to "Taiwan +886": enter only the 9 digits. They start with 9. Do not add 886 again and do not keep the leading 0.
- The field wants the full international number: enter +886 plus the 9 digits, for example +886912345678.
- Do not write +86 instead of +886, and do not put a 0 in front of 886.
- Spaces and dashes are usually not needed; follow the app's prompt.
If there is no country selector, look at the example in the field: if it starts with 09, use the 10-digit domestic format; if it starts with +886, use the international format.
When do you actually need a Taiwan number?
Not every sign-up needs a Taiwan number:
| Situation | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| International apps (for example Google, Microsoft, Discord, TikTok, X) that let you choose the country | A Taiwan number is not necessarily required; compare current offers and stock for other countries |
| Services aimed at Taiwan users whose sign-up only accepts +886 | You need a Taiwan number; choose "Taiwan +886" |
| Banking, payment and identity verification services | A one-time activation number is not suitable; use your own phone number |
Whether a specific app accepts virtual numbers is up to that app; check its official help pages. This page does not make claims about specific apps.

Not receiving the code on a Taiwan number?
- Check the format first: is the country "Taiwan +886", and did you add an extra 0 or 886?
- Make sure the app is sending an SMS. Some apps send the code to a logged-in device or in-app first instead of by SMS.
- Do not tap "resend" repeatedly in a short time. Wait before retrying; frequent requests can trigger the app's own limits.
- If no SMS arrives, cancel under the order rules. Cancellation and refund conditions when no SMS is received are described in SMSPing pricing, top-ups and refunds.

Before you use it
- SMSPing provides one-time activation numbers for receiving a verification SMS.
- So it is not a good idea to set one as an account's recovery number or two-factor number. When you need to verify again later, the same number may no longer be available.
- Follow the target app's terms of service and the rules where you live.
